Youtube's Highest Earner Is an 8-Year-Old Who Lives in Texas with a Sum of $26 Million

In just one year Ryan Kaji earned $26 million from his toy reviews on YouTube.

The highest-earning person on YouTube this year was eight-year-old Ryan Kaji. This is the second year in a row that Kaji is the online video platform's highest-earning person.

Kaji's account, Ryan's World, reviews toys and brought in $26 million this year, up from $22 million last year.

He's not the only kid to be a top earner on YouTube, as the account Nastya came in third, with $18 million.

The Nastya account is owned by a 5-year-old girl with cerebral palsy who lives in Russia called Anastasia Radzinskaya.

Kaji typically releases a new video each day, which his 22.9 million followers then get to enjoy.

Forbes created the list of top YouTube earners and estimated the pre-tax income from advertisements, sponsored content, merchandise sales, and tours for all the accounts.

Kaji's content receives millions of hits each day, some of which even get over a billion

In November, the young 8-year-old told NBC that he thought people enjoyed his videos because he is "entertaining and funny."

His most watched video received 1.9 billion hits and shows Kaji running around his garden on an inflatable, looking for plastic eggs with toys inside.

His earnings double from 2017 to 2018.

However, if you think you can switch to making money from YouTube posts just with the click of a finger you may want to think again.

Chris Stokel-Walker, an internet culture writer and author of the book YouTubers, told the BBC "The vast majority of people who start a YouTube channel, or engage in any career as an influencer, won't make it."

He continued, "96.5% of YouTubers don't make enough from advertising revenue alone to break the US poverty line - and with the number of creators on the platform constantly increasing, the competition is only getting tougher."
